Coaley Shop Association (CoSPA)  Ltd was originally set up to establish a shop in the village in the early 2000s. The shop opened in 2003 in an old school terrapin building. Over the years this became dilapidated and the new purpose built shop was opened in July 2021.

As well as modernising the building the committee were keen to review the way the shop is run and decided to join the Plunkett organisation. This is a charity dedicated to supporting community run organisations, such as shops and pubs, with legal and technical advice.

An adviser visited us and undertook a thorough review of the way we manage the shop.  She was very positive about the progress we have but also made a number of suggestions  for further development.

One of them was to update our constitution – the rules by which the shop is governed - as there have been changes to the legal framework of organisations like ours since the shop was first established. We have adopted model rules prepared by the Plunkett Foundation and adapted them slightly to reflect our particular circumstances.

We have tabled a motion at the AGM to adopt the new constitution.  a draft of the new constitution is listed on the next pages.
